What is naturism?
This is a question that inspires a variety of different answers.
The Wikipedia interpretation is as follows:-
‘Naturism or Nudism is a cultural and political movement advocating and defending social nudity in private and in public. It may also refer to a lifestyle based on personal, family and/or social nudism’
Whereas the International Naturist foundation says:
“Naturism is a way of life in harmony with nature characterised by the practice of communal nudity, with the intention of encouraging self-respect, respect for others and for the environment.”
Finally, the simplest answer came from ‘britannia on line’ who said:
“Nudism also called Naturism, is the practice of going without clothes, generally for reasons of health or comfort. Nudism is a social practice in which the sexes interact freely but commonly without engaging in sexual activities”
Naturism has its origins around the early 20th century, when a German nudist club appeared in about 1903 near Hamburg called ‘Freiichtpark’ (free light park)
Nudism started spreading roots in Europe in the early 1920’s and established connections in North America during the 1930’s.
Nowadays there naturist communities all over the world, some of which are holiday based, some which are lifestyle based and there are even nudist villages around the world where naturists literally live their lives naked.
