We interview a man who has been around a bit – certainly music wise.

Arjay is setting up his own company which will supply artists to naturist venues up and down the country. We caught up with him to discover first-hand his views on naturism.

When and where was your first nudist experience? 

Depends what you mean by ‘nudist experience’. If you mean skinny dipping, have done that since my teens, it was always thought of as a bit of a laugh among the lads and a way of showing off in front of the girls (one or two did it as well). I am English/British but I do find the prudish sniggering attitude of us Brits a little disappointing. Always linking nudity with sex or deviancy. I like being nude whenever possible so I suppose it is just normal so long as it doesn’t offend.

Do your family and friends know about your nudist hobby?

I don’t consider it ‘a hobby’ more a way of life. Being naked calms me, along with my music, often doing the two together. My wider family and friends don’t know that I am a nudist but a couple had an inkling a few weeks ago when my Wife brought them back to our house. We have a large kitchen and if she knows I am naked, and I usually am, she will ring the doorbell twice before entering if she is accompanied. Well she did, but the battery was flat, I was at the sink rinsing a few things out and my dressing gown was on the chair over the other side of the room. I gave them a free show for a few seconds.

How did they react?

Smiles and raised eyebrows and nothing was said.

How about the other members of your band?

I play solo. But when I lived in East Anglia my 4 piece played a couple of times at Naturist Clubs. The lead guitarist and I belonged to the same club (no problem there) but the bass player and drummer took some convincing, only stripping off for the second set. If I can get some gigs in East Anglia, or even down here in the South West, I think they would be up for it if their partners allow, but the thought of a holiday here might convince them.

Have you performed your songs in the nude much? And do the other members of the band join in the nudity?

More than the band have (twice) helping to run an agency for musicians, by musicians (minimal commissions, lower prices all round) I did have requests from nudists but mostly I just did them solo under the name of ARJAY (the initials of my for names), I have done about twelve gigs nude, that gave me the idea for R J Nude Entertainments, to spare nudists of the undercover questions and also for other nude musicians to benefit from my experience. We are all nudists so what is the problem?

Have you ever had an embarrassing nudist experience.

I was doing a residency in Madeira and the owners of the club ‘textile’ said I could use the facilities at their house and to make myself at home(alone), pool, hot tub, sauna etc ready for the gig in the evening. I went in for a dip, as I came out of the pool naked I became aware of the maid and her two children looking over the balcony at me, I casually grabbed my towel, apologised and dressed. I felt I had to tell my hosts when I returned to the club, who fell about laughing, but then when they had use of the mic in the evening proceeded to tell a club full of ex pats to howls of laughter.

Does your wife join in?

Not so outgoing as me, but yes.

Have you been to a naturist club?

We were members at a club in East Anglia before our move to the South West.
