Frith isn’t by her own admission a full-time nudist, she is like many of us a fair-weather naturist, preferring to enjoy naturism in warmer weather and only with her selected company.
Frith is 35 and supplements her income as a naturist masseuse. She lives with her partner in Hastings in East Sussex. We went to see her to discover the inner secrets of her role and to find out if she suffered from any social stigmas of being a naturist
masseuse.
Nudist UK:- Why the name Frith?
Frith:- “The name came originally from the book The Snow Goose by Paul Gallico a book that my Dad loved. The name Frith means Peace and Strength.”
Nudist UK:- What made you get into nudist massage, or naturist massage?
Frith:- “I have always been instinctively drawn to helping people, and from the age of five would massage family and friends knowing that I was doing good. I would mash up doc leaves and call it Dock leaf cure and use it as a healing mechanism. I guess I was a bit of a white witch as a child.
My God Mother was into reflexology and herbalism and told me that I was an old soul on new shoulders and that if I didn’t do anything with my gifts, then she would be disappointed.” My Dad, who was very much in touch with his spiritual side, also encouraged me to be a free spirited individual.
Nudist UK:- But why Naturist massage ?
Frith:- Because, apart from the fact that it pays more, when I am naked with my client, it feels like there is spiritual union which together with the crystals, is very powerful.
Nudist UK:- So, what sort of clients do you attract?
Frith:- Most of my clients are very spiritual, sensitive and aware of what they want in life, how they want to progress, they are quite intelligent.
There are those clients that leave a bit to be desired, but mostly good people. I normally get the people I like.
I try to filter out the idiots at phone level, so that no-one has the misapprehension that there is nothing other than massage involved.
Nudist UK:- Where do your clients come from?
Frith:- From Gumtree, and also from yourself (Nudist UK)
Nudist UK:- What do you most like about being a nudist or naturist masseuse?
Frith:- Meeting the diverse range of individuals who have experienced a lot in life, I have always believed that I can gain as much from my clients, as they gain from me.
There are times when I finish the session much more buoyant than when I started, the clients also have their own healing abilities.
Nudist UK:- What do you like least about your job?
Frith:- The constant need to remind people that this is not a sexual service. I do forewarn people that they are only getting a massage, and the fact that they and I are naked in the same room does not mean that anything sexual will ever take place. I also warn people that my partner will be around.
Nudist UK:- So you get difficult clients?
Yes, despite the warnings, you get clients that like to test the boundaries, try to touch you, they sometimes want to play with themselves, or they ask if they can do stuff to themselves when I leave the room, I have heard some really unpleasant things from upstairs.
Nudist UK:- What do you mean?
Frith:- Well, essentially they are actually playing with themselves while I am out of the room
N.UK:- And you can hear the groans that sort of thing..?
Yes, I then have the task to explain to them that they are actually in my home, and this is not the behaviour that I or my partner expect
Nudist UK:- Incredible!
Frith:- Yes, and some people seem to be really nice when they first get here, and then all of a sudden…
Nudist UK:- Is this behaviour confined to men?
Frith:- No, I have had women misbehave as well, there was this woman who kept saying that she wasn’t Gay in any way, but proceeded to tell me that if her breasts were touched, she would come within thirty seconds. She then tried everything in the book to get me to massage her breasts! There is no real need to touch the breasts during a massage as you would massage the muscle underneath the actual breast tissue.
Nudist UK:- What do you do if a client gets embarrassingly excited?
Frith:- It doesn’t faze me if someone gets naturally aroused, it does happen, there are reflex points on the body that can cause this stimulus, its natural and you can ignore it, however if someone gets aroused by their own actions or manipulations, then that’s very different, and I will take issue with that person.
Nudist UK:- Do you do any other kind of work?
Frith:- Yes. I work with adolescents between the ages of 16 and 25 with emotional and behavioural problems, drug and alcohol abuse, I work through an agency, so my shifts can vary. I ve also got a degree in contemporary fine art so I do take commissions.
Nudist UK:- What do you do in your spare time?
Frith:- (laughs). Generally meet up with people, I ll have a coffee with friends. I want to get back to going running in the park.
Nudist UK:- What do you like about naturism in general?
Frith:- There s no pretence with naturism, people are just who they are. You often find some very genuine people who just want to be themselves and want to get away from the rush of every day living and get out of – almost the 21st century, they just want to have a very basic lifestyle and enjoy peace and quiet me-time. You get to see the person as they really are, not the person they portray to the rest of the world when they are working.
I don t consider myself to be a strict naturist, more of a Lay Naturist
Nudist UK:- What was your first experience with naturism?
Frith:- My first experience was when I started doing Life Modelling.
Nudist UK:- And what drew you into Life Modelling?
Frith:- I needed the money. I again worked in two jobs; I was working with children aged 5 to 18 and then was also doing college for my A-level art. I looked into doing Life Modelling at college because I could fit it around my art studies at the same college. The nude life modelling I found very safe because there was a distance between you and the people who were drawing you. That said, there was still a couple of the dirty raincoat brigade that would sometimes attend the classes. It was quite comical actually.
Nudist UK:- So your very first time as a naturist was when you started the Life modelling. How did you feel?
Frith:- Unfazed by it. It doesn t matter what size I have been, I have always embraced my body, and in the Life model scenario I recognise that these people are gaining experience about Shape and Form. I am a curvy woman, but I am pleased with my curves. I think too many people are embarrassed with what in fact they have been blessed with.
Nudist UK:- What advice would you give to people who are thinking about becoming a nudist but are not sure?
If it feels right, go for it. It s only society that creates the negative stigma that naturism has incurred. If it feels true to you, then don t let anyone stop you. You don t have to go around telling people that you re a naturist, naturism can be a very personal thing, and a very spiritual thing, and if you share it with the right people, you can gain an awful lot from it. It s like everything in life, if you give all of what you think to people, there will always be someone who will try to knock you down.
Nudist UK:- You spend a lot of time massaging naked people, how does your partner feel?
He trusts me, because he knows how professional I am about it. My relationship with my other half is important and means the world to me. Naturist massage is, in my perception, somewhere in the middle between traditional massage and Tantric massage, you have the true naturist who just enjoys the nude massage, but there are others, who if they were more honest, would admit that they would prefer a Tantric massage.
Nudist UK:- What is a Tantric Massage?
Tantric massage is very sensual, the massage will go into the groin area and could end up with a Happy ending whereas a naturist massage has both the client and masseur or masseuse naked, BUT it s just a massage. No extra s.
Nudist UK:- OK final question, do you draw a distinction between the words Nudist and Naturist ?
To be honest, no. In some ways I probably prefer the term naturist because it s Natural Massage, and it seems more appropriate. I think it s the same thing as Nudist, but has more gentle connotations.
